Fellowship 2016 - Why you should apply!

By Shoaib Sufi, Community Lead, Software Sustainability Institute

Deadline extended to 11.59pm Sunday 4th October 2015 - Apply here

The Fellowship programme 2016 offers £3000 funding for conference visits, running workshops, and other domain or institutional events, to improve and promote best practice in the software used to support research.

Different domains are at different places in their adoption of research software (e.g. Physics and Bioinformatics are seen as quite advanced in their practice). As a Fellow you will have access to experts in research software who can help you accelerate its adoption in your domain. Equally if you are more advanced in your research software skills, you can help other domains adopt it. Whatever the case, you will benefit from the interaction and review from peers in research software.

The Fellowship is not just for people who code. If you’re a researcher who understands software’s value to research, an advocate for the adoption of software skills, or someone who wants code to help support your research, then the Fellowship is for you. Equally, if you come from more of a coding background, have an interest in standards, e-Infrastructure or HPC then you should apply.

To see the diversity of people amongst our existing Fellows please take a look at their profiles and read perspectives from a humanities scholar and a scientist. We had a webinar talking about the programme earlier this month, slides and a recording are available - take a look.

Join the Fellowship and you will no longer be a lone voice promoting software in your domain. You will be part of a network, with opportunities for collaborate both inside and outside the network. Many of our Fellows from previous years still attend events and interact with the Institute, and we help support their work through our continuing Fellowship fund.

Apply to become a Fellow.

Application date has been extended to 11.59pm Sunday 4th October 2015 (BST)
