Call for participation for the first 2020 Science/SSI Paper Hackathon on Computational Life Sciences

Posted by s.hettrick on 30 July 2014 - 3:00pm
  • Location: Flore, Northamptonshire (near Northampton)
  • Dates: 10-12 September 2014
  • Visit the Hackathon website

On 10-12 September we will hold the first Paper Hackathon on Computational Life Sciences. During this meeting we will pursue up to 7 collaborative research projects, each working at high intensity over two days towards a scientific paper. We summarize the projects in the appendix of this Call.

This meeting has been made possible by the 2020 Science network and the Software Sustainability Institute and will take place in the Real Retreat near Northampton.

We are looking for eager DTC students and early career researchers with experience in computational research to join this event, and to contribute to a publication as part of one of the Hackathon projects. Aside from the opportunity to become a co-author on a paper, the workshop allows participants to network with early career researchers in computational science and computational biomedicine. The capacity of this event is limited to 21 participants, providing an informal setting and minimal distractions during the Paper Hackathon. That being said, there will be ample opportunity to socialize and network as well, especially in the evenings.

We have five places available for external participants, and we hereby invite you to apply! Applicants selected for participation will be invited to the event free of charge, and food and accommodation will be provided. Participants will need to cover their own travel expenses, but reimbursement may be possible in some cases.

If you would like to apply, then please send your application to Derek Groen. As part of your application, we expect:

  • Your contact details
  • A summary describing yourself and your academic expertise and computational background. (max 150 words)
  • Your motivation for applying to join the paper hackathon, and what you believe you could contribute to the overall event. (max 150 words)
  • An indication of your preferred paper hackathon projects (please name at least three), and the role you would like to fulfil in these projects. (max 200 words)

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS AUGUST 8th 2014.
