The Software Sustainability Institute

The main application for our Fellowship programme is a voiceover of a slide presentation screencast and reviewers will base the bulk of their decision on it during shortlisting. So, how can you make the best impression? Here are some tips.

We are pleased to announce that applications to the Software Sustainability Institute Fellowship Programme 2022 are now open! This round will also be a pilot for opening up the programme to international applicants. The deadline to apply is 31 October 2021.
What does a Research Software Engineer (RSE) who uses R do? How can we promote RSE career paths? How can we identify and highlight which funders are most research software friendly? How can we increase visibility of RSEs in the R community? Could we develop a podcast on ‘meet the R-engineers’ or collaborate with an existing R podcast? What should a book “Research Software Engineering with R” contain? How do we develop an RSE for R users community?

Registration is now open for the workshops in our Research Software Camp: Beyond the Spreadsheet running from 1- 12 November.
Here is a summary of some of the key takeaways from the SSI Fellowship Programme 2022 Launch Webinar. It provided information about the Institute, the Fellowship Programme, the application process, the International Fellowship pilot, and considerations with regard to COVID-19. It also included experiences from SSI Fellows Becca Wilson, Sarah Gibson and Emma Rand. Applications to the Fellowship Programme are open until 31 October 2021.

We’re thrilled to present our brand new monthly training round up. This month, we bring you opportunities of lessons in the Carpentries Incubator, workshops organised by the SSI staff, partners and collaborators, and updates from our Training Lead, Aleksandra Nenadic.

Do you use spreadsheets to conduct your research? Do you prefer a specific tool or approach when using spreadsheets? The Research Software Camp: Beyond the Spreadsheet will focus on the uses of spreadsheets in research and first steps into further use of software in research.

WoKaTs21 will take place in late October or early November 2021 (exact date to be decided). To register your interest, please fill in the expression of interest form.

"We were already following a lot of best practice and it was very good to get this confirmation. We're not computer scientists and don't come from a software development background - we're all scientific programmers - so it was good to get some confirmation that what we do is on the right track"
