The results from the 2018 RSE international survey are available to consultation. This year we had a total of 985 participants from 32 different countries.

Supported by the UK Software Sustainability Institute Fellowship, I attended the fourth Face-to-Face (F2F) meeting of the W3C Dataset eXchange Working Group (DXWG) in Lyon, France, at the end of October 2018. Here, I report on how W3C WGs work and the specific outputs we’ve been producing at DXWG.

During the Hackday, attendees collaborate on a project that will be presented at the end of the day and have the chance to win a prize. This year the first prize is 11.6' Pinebook notebook.

We are very pleased to announce Tracy Teal as one of the keynote speakers at CarpentryConnect Manchester 2019. Her talk “Democratising data: building inclusive communities teaching universal data literacy” will address issues around supporting the creation and development of inclusive communities and teaching researchers data skills.

We are very pleased to announce Marta Teperek from TU Delft in Netherlands as one of the keynote speakers at CarpentryConnect Manchester 2019. Her talk “Better data (and code!) Help!...” will address issues around data management in research.

In affiliation with The Carpentries, The Software Sustainability Institute is organising the first European CarpentryConnect event in Manchester from 25th to 27th June 2019.

Collaborations Workshop 2019 (CW19) will take place from Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd April 2019 at Loughborough University in the West Park Teaching Hub. The Software Sustainability Institute’s Collaborations Workshop series brings together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software.
The Gateways Conference will take place from Tuesday through Thursday, 25th – 27th September 2018 at the University of Texas, Austin. Science gateways connect components of advanced cyber-infrastructure behind streamlined, user-friendly interfaces. Join gateway creators and enthusiasts to learn, share, connect, and shape the future of gateways.
