ELIXIR UK Instructor Training at UCL
The Autumn 2015 series of Software and Data Carpentry Instructor Training workshops is in full swing. After two events run at the University of Leeds for the N8 Consortium and at the Imperial College London, the University College of London hosted Instructor Training supported by the ELIXIR UK.
The Institute is helping ELIXIR UK increase the certified instructor pool across other European ELIXIR Nodes. Therefore the training at UCL was attended not only by the participants from the UK but also research institutions in Norway, Sweded, Finland and Italy. The two day workshop (8-9 October) was run by Greg Wilson with some help from Aleksandra Pawlik, the Institute's Training Lead, on the first day.
The training covered a number of techniques and methods effective in teaching - most of which are extensively and effectively used at Carpentry workshops. Similarly to the Carpentry model of hands-on teaching, the Instructor Trainees did not only listen about the best practices in teaching but they had a number of tasks to complete.
The next Instructor Training supported by ELIXIR UK will take place at the University of Manchester, 23-24th November (and the list is already full!). There is one more ELIXIR Instructor Training hosted by the Swiss Node in Lausanne on 13th and 14th January 2016. There are still a few places left there but they are likely to get filled up quickly.
