This blog post was originally published in the ELIXIR-UK website.

As part of our new UKRI funded FAIR Data Stewardship Training Project, we are searching for a new full time staff member to oversee and develop a new Data Stewardship Fellowship programme and work with a small team to coordinate the delivery of training to a national audience of life science researchers. You can find the full details in the job advert, but this blog provides more information and context on the role.

So what’s it all about?

This is an exciting new role which has been created as part of our new UKRI funded project ‘FAIR Data Stewardship Training’, which is aligned with the new government vision for life science research.

You will have the opportunity to lead development of our new Fellowship for data stewards across the UK, building a community in an area which is often under-represented. This high profile Fellowship is unique and has already received a lot of attention from funders, universities and research organisations, making it highly likely that your work will inspire others developing similar programmes in the UK and Europe. You will also have access to the expertise of the Software Sustainability Institute, who are partners on this project and run their own successful Fellowship programme.

As Community Manager you will be responsible for managing a highly engaged community, which will make building and managing this community a rewarding experience. You will also have the opportunity to engage with a large number of organisations across the UK and Europe, allowing you to network across ELIXIR and beyond.

A job that works for you

As Community Manager you will have a high degree of autonomy which will allow you to shape your role and manage your own time. This role is based at the University of Bradford, but ELIXIR-UK is a UK wide organisation and we welcome applications from people who wish to work remotely from other UK locations.

Develop your career skills

This role will enable you to develop skills which will aid you in your career in community management and beyond. You will develop skills in project management and event organisation, assessment and recruiting of Fellows, as well as levelling up your community management skills. Your broader work on the project will allow you to develop skills in report writing and landscape analysis as you help us assess the training landscape across the UK.

This is a varied role and will mean that you will learn to deal with complex environments with competing priorities, have a high level of autonomy and have the opportunity to provide input into our future strategy.

Work for ELIXIR- UK

ELIXIR-UK is a national organisation with 20 members spread across the UK, providing a vibrant community to draw on for networking and expertise in life science data management.

ELIXIR-UK is made up of people with a diverse range of career stages and roles, from those working day to day in research data management to high level strategy roles. We are a friendly and supportive team based around the UK, including two trainers based at the University of Bradford and a Community Engagement Officer and Project Manager based at our Coordination Office at the Earlham institute.

Working with ELIXIR-UK will also give you access to the community and networks across ELIXIR. People working in communication and engagement across the different nodes come together to provide support, training and collaboration, which provides a unique opportunity to learn from a transnational set of colleagues. .

What makes a good candidate?

Do you have great communication skills, want to help others and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team?

Perhaps you’re a researcher who’s worked in research data management and would now like to work more with community building in research. This job could be the perfect opportunity to gain or expand your people and project management skills.

Or you could be someone already working in community engagement looking for a fresh challenge to hone your community engagement skills.
