Session videos from CarpentryConnect Manchester 2019 (CCMcr19) are now available on the Institute’s YouTube channel. In affiliation with The Carpentries, the Software Sustainability Institute organised the first European CarpentryConnect event in Manchester from 25–27 June 2019. CCMcr19 was hosted at The Studio Manchester on 25 and 26 of June, and in the Kilburn Building at the School of Computer Science (University of Manchester) on 27 June.
Did you miss Collaborations Workshop 2019 earlier this year? Would you like to hear one of the talks again? All talks at the event were recorded and these are now available on our YouTube channel.

Inspired by the videos created by Sustain during their 2018 Summit, we asked some of the Collaborations Workshop 2019 attendees to share their thoughts about research software sustainability. Each video contains a question relating to software in research, and each interviewee shared their views with us.
We are pleased to announce that the recording of the Software Sustainability Institute's Collaborations Workshop 2018 (CW18) is online on YouTube. The agenda has also been amended and now links to the recording. Remember to save the date for Collaborations Workshop 2019 (CW19) at the West Park Teaching Hub, Loughborough University, which will take place from Monday 1st April until Wednesday 3rd April 2019.

Some people have it easy when it comes to explaining what they do for a living to their kids: just ask a plumber or a vet. Alas this is not the case for many of us in the research software community, or for Scott Henwood, a lead software architect at the Canadian Network for the Advancement of Research, Industry and Education (CANARIE).

Carole Goble - one of the Institute's Co-Investigators - presented a technical talk on eScience at the womENcourage conference March 2014. If you'd like to hear more about this presentation, you can watch the video on the Official ACM YouTube channel.
