SeIUCCR Summer School 2012
Do you already have a little experience working with e-Infrastructure? Perhaps you are undertaking, or have completed, doctoral studies, and find yourself engaging with clouds or grids for the first time? Ask yourself this: wouldn’t it be good to take some time this summer to get practical advice and hands-on support for deploying e-infrastructure in your work?

International conference on science and the internet - COSCI12
Online media have brought about numerous changes in scholarly practices, including, but not limited to gathering data, finding relevant literature, making research and results accessible, organising collaboration, communicating with colleagues and students as well as creating fruitful learning environments.
The interdisciplinary conference Science and the Internet brings together researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines, such as information science, computer science, sociology, communication and media studies,
linguistics, educations studies and legal studies.

Web Science Summer School
The area of Web Science is an exciting new interdisciplinary research area that takes the Web as the scientific phenomenon of study. Working in Web Science requires a broad view of the scientific playing field, with a need to combine a range of scientific skills from different disciplines. The underlying rationale of Web Science as a separate field comes from the observation that many "traditional" scientific theories and laws do not hold or behave differently on the Web. Participation in the school is free of charge.
The School is proud to host internationally renowned and leading scientists as speakers, including Nosh Contractor, Wendy Hall, Jim Hendler, Maarten de Rijke, Nigel Shadbolt, Steffen Staab and Chris Welty. Each day of the School has its own theme:
- MONDAY 9 July Day theme: Web Science Basics
- TUESDAY 10 July Day theme: Web Data
- WEDNESDAY 11 July Day theme: Web Communication
- THURSDAY 12 July Day theme: Web Society
- FRIDAY 13 July Day theme: Wrap-up and Synthesis
For an overview and further information, see the summer school website.

Digital Methods Summer School 2012
The Digital Methods Initiative (DMI) will host its 6th annual Summer School from 25 June to 6 July 2012 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This year's theme is “Reality mining, and the limits of digital methods.” It is
organised for new media researchers (broadly conceived), and is open to (early stage) PhD candidates, advanced master's degree students, recent graduates and motivated scholars. It is a working Summer School, in that all participants work on projects, collectively conceived, that explore this year's theme, trace mining.
The Summer School is a training program, where participants receive a certificate of completion. It is also an intensive (and rewarding) workshop environment, where participants work in teams, tracing and
mapping data, objects and issues. DMI also invites special guests as resource people to present their research and projects in morning lectures. There is a final presentation where the Summer School
accomplishments are presented to participants and invitees.
The application deadline is Friday 4 May 2012. Candidates will be notified on Tuesday 8 May 2012.
For more information, visit the conference website.
