The Software Sustainability Institute
By Sarah Maddox, Technical Writer. Google Open Source has announced a new program called Season of Docs. I’m excited because the goals of this program reflect two passions of mine: to help technical writers get started in the world of open source software, and to help open source projects build great documentation. I’m also excited because I’m on the program development team for Season of Docs.
Come and find out about The Software Sustainability Institute at the University of Edinburgh on Tuesday 26th March at 14:00, in the Bayes Centre, University of Edinburgh. Neil Chue Hong, Institute Director, and Mario Antonioletti, Research Software Engineer, will give an overview of the important role that software plays in research and innovation and describe some of the Institute’s activities around the research software community in the UK and in Edinburgh. In particular, Neil & Mario will present different opportunities to collaborate with us and connect you to a wider research software community.
The Workshop on Sustainable Software Sustainability 2019 (WOSSS19) will be held from 24-26 April 2019. Co-organised by DANS, the Software Sustainability Institute and the Netherlands eScience Centre, WOSSS19 will bring together key organisational and domain decision makers and knowledgeable people in the area of software sustainability.
"We are in a position to fundamentally reorganise the heart of the software. By doing so, this will enable us to maintain the software into the future and facilitate the process of adding new functionality to the software ... SSI can assist in having software usable by others not just for a few months or a year, but rather for a much longer software lifetime"
