Digital Research 2012 - Software Surgery

The Software Sustainability Institute - the national facility for cultivating world-class research through software - invites you to a Software Sustainability Surgery at Digital Research 2012 on Tuesday 11 September at 14.00-16.30.

You will have the opportunity to discuss issues about software with experts from the Institute. You can get answers to questions about software development, project management, publicity or community engagement. The surgery is open to anyone who uses or develops software for research whether you are a Principal Investigator, at the start of your research career or a seasoned software developer.

How does it work?

The surgery opens with a short talk about the Institute’s work and services. The remainder of the afternoon is arranged into short appointments during which you can discuss any aspect of software sustainability with an Institute member of your choice. Our experts are:

  • Steve Crouch: general software design and development, open standards for software interoperability, open-source software, software consultancy projects.
  • Simon Hettrick: publicising your work, events management, writing about software and research.
  • Neil Chue Hong: software sustainability, project management, writing funding proposals, software development policy for UK research, open research.
  • Mike Jackson: general software design and development, automated build and test, usability, developing open-source software, training.
  • Shoaib Sufi: web services, agile development, building a software community

Make an appointment

We have divided our surgery into a number of 15 minute slots from 14.15 onwards (14.15, 14.30,...). We invite you to book a slot by emailing info@software.ac.uk specifying your desired time and expert and what you'd like to discuss. Please also let us know if you are happy for others to sit in and participate in your discussion.

Alternatively, you are welcome to turn up on the day and we'll endeavour to assign you a free slot.

If there are no slots free then do not despair as we will have a booth at Digital Research 2012 and you are also more than welcome to grab members of the Institute during coffee, lunches and dinners.
