Should we be scared of choosing an OSS licence?
By Simon Hettrick.
Github recently put together a guide to help developers choose an OSS licence: Choosing an OSS license doesn’t need to be scary. There are a lot of guides out there, but the thing that really makes Github's offering stand out from the crowd is its simplicity. Three questions + one answer = one licence recommendation.
Everyone's careful when discussing legal matters which means that most guides get bogged down in the slightly different versions of the many different licences. Maybe we should aim for simplicity over comprehensiveness? After all, the idea of choosing a licence is so abominable to some that they just release without one, and that doesn't help anyone in the software community.
