Call for Evidence: Showcasing the Impact of Research Software Engineers

The Software Sustainability Institute is supporting an important initiative to gather evidence of the positive impact of Research Software Engineers (RSEs) on research outcomes. The Data / Culture project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), is leading this effort to build a national strategy for RSE capacity in the Arts and Humanities, while also demonstrating the broader value of RSE expertise across disciplines.

We are inviting researchers to submit examples of research that benefited from RSE collaborations—whether through software, data, documentation, or case studies. The goal is to build an openly available dataset and a report that will help ensure RSEs receive the recognition and funding they deserve.

This is a chance to make a real difference. Your contributions will:

  • Provide concrete evidence of the impact of RSEs in research.
  • Inform UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and AHRC policy.
  • Support investment in computational research collaborations.

We encourage submissions of publicly accessible work, including that of others—not just your own. All evidence will be anonymised before publication.

Help us shape the future of RSEs in research and submit your evidence today!
