Does cultural analysis have a role in software design?
Sarbjit Bakhshi's latest blog post follows on from a discussion that tooke place at the Collaborations Workshop. He talks about the communications problems between Computer Scientists and other researchers.
It has long said that Computer Scientists exist in their own world. In my experience they are amazingly clever and able to hold very complicated ideas in their head and express them in amazing code. However, as a corollary to be able to think in a way that produces a computer based solution is orthogonal to thinking about a human based solution, so Computer Scientists can appear distant and have difficulty dealing with "very emotional people".
Does the solution lie with "story capture", which has been very successful with the Digital Economies programme, or something else? Read Sarbjit's blog post to discover his solution.
