We are thrilled to announce that Dr Becca Wilson will be one of our two keynote speakers during Collaborations Workshop 2020 and will help participants think about the workshop theme of Data Privacy.
Dr Becca Wilson is an interdisciplinary researcher with a career spanning the space, atmospheric, and health sciences. She is currently a UKRI Innovation Fellow with HDR UK at Newcastle University developing tools for the sharing, access, and immersive data visualisation of sensitive health data.
For six years Becca has been a member of the core development team for DataSHIELD - an open source software and infrastructure for the privacy protected federated analysis of health and biomedical data. DataSHIELD is used widely by European consortia of cohort studies, where due to ethico-legal, governance, regulatory or intellectual property reasons, data custodians are unable to allow researchers direct access to their data. It is also being piloted in the German healthcare system to facilitate research using patient data.
Becca holds significant expertise in science communication and public engagement, with her work displayed in several museums. Becca is a Software Sustainability Institute Fellow and sits on the strategic advisory board for OKRE, a Wellcome Trust incubated organisation supporting collaboration across research entertainment and creative industries for disseminating research in popular culture.
