The UK government announced an additional £600 million of funding to be spent on eight priority areas for science and innovation:

• big data
• space
• robotics and autonomous systems
• synthetic biology
• regenerative medicine
• agri-science
• advanced materials
• energy

Scientific software underpins each of these technology areas, from the work of the e-Leadership Council, through the research institutes and innovation centres, and in the training of the next cohort of researchers at the Centres for Doctoral Training.
