IGS Early Career Scientist Award logo and Sammie BuzzardWe are happy to share that SSI Fellow Sammie Buzzard has been awarded the IGS Early Career Scientist Award for the year 2022. Established in 2021 by the Council of the International Glaciological Society, the IGS ECS Award is given annually to an early career scientist who has made significant scientific contributions to glaciology.

Dr Sammie Buzzard is a glaciologist, a climate scientist, and a lecturer at Cardiff University. Her research interest focuses on the surface hydrology of Antarctica's ice shelves and the creation of a model that can calculate how and where these may become vulnerable to sudden collapse.

She has also shown a strong commitment to diversity and has worked to enhance Antarctic science opportunities for under-represented groups, including women, people from racial and ethnic minorities in the UK, members of the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities.
