The importance of the Hidden REF featured in Nature

hidden REF logoAn article highlighting the importance of the Hidden REF, called Time to celebrate science’s ‘hidden’ contributors, features in Nature this week. 

The piece by Gemma Derrick and SSI Deputy Director Simon Hettrick, both members of the Hidden REF committee, emphasises the importance of the many essential roles which support research, but often go unrecognised in the traditional Research Excellence Framework which focusses on publications. The article states:

Concentrating such a large proportion of any assessment of scientific quality on publications alone does a disservice to the diversity of research culture.
