New Code for Thought Episode: In Conversation with Ben Goldacre

Posted by j.laird on 27 September 2022 - 2:00pm

Code for thought logoIn the latest episode of the Code For Thought podcast Peter Schmidt talks to Ben Goldacre. Ben has an outstanding career in medicine, science and science communication and is the author of many articles and books, like "Bad Science". Today he is running the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science in Oxford.

In the episode they discuss his report on 'Better, Broader, Safer: Using Health Data for Research and Analysis', which outlines ways on how research in the health sector should be improved. This report, published in April 2022 and commissioned by the UK government, is based on more than 300 individual interviews and many more with key stakeholder groups. One of the key findings and recommendations is the need for proper software engineering. Needless to say that RSEs play an important part in this. In fact, Ben has been a strong supporter and promoter for Research Software Engineering as well as open science and software.
