New publication: Evidence-based recommendations for designing and delivering a fellowship programme

two people helping a third onto a platform

We are pleased to announce the publication of our paper Recommendations from a Fellowship Programme for Advocates of Good Software Practices in Research

In this paper, we use survey and interview data to demonstrate that the SSI Fellowship strengthens fellows’ knowledge and use of good software practices as well as supporting their professional development. We then offer evidence-based practical recommendations for those wanting to deliver programmes similar to the SSI Fellowship. These include mechanisms for building a community of fellows for peer-level knowledge sharing; offering flexibility; providing mentorship; and using an impact evaluation framework.

This paper will be of interest to organisations looking to develop their own fellowship program, potential fellows interested in joining the SSI programme, and those interested in methods for evaluating fellowship programmes.

Individual fellows’ stories developed from this work can be read here.

For more information on this paper please contact Anita Banerji.

For more information on the SSI Fellowship please contact Oscar Seip.
