Have you ever written software, code or scripts for research purposes?
Are you from an underrepresented group in research software as defined by you?
We are a team of researchers from underrepresented groups in research software who are running a study exploring the barriers and enablers to developing research software for underrepresented groups. We would like to use our findings to inform research software leaders about ways of improving inclusivity. There is also an optional 15-minute post-interview survey to allow you to share your experience of the interview.
We are holding research interviews lasting up to an hour over Zoom to understand how your personal characteristics (such as race, gender and sexual orientation) impact your professional identity and relationship to research software. As a thank you we will offer you a love2shop voucher and send you an invitation to a careers workshop for underrepresented groups.
We are looking for people who fit the following criteria:
- Have experience, currently or previously, of developing software for research purposes. This could include writing, maintaining, or extending code, scripts, or software applications. You could be a researcher, a Research Software Engineer or another research-related professional. You could be confident in your research software skill set or feel like writing software is not one of your strengths.
- Are from an underrepresented group in research software as defined by you. This includes, but is not limited to, those who identify as female or gender-minority, Black, Asian, and minority ethnic, LGBTQIA+, disabled or first-generation graduates.
- Are a current or previous employee of a UK university or research institution or a PhD candidate who has completed their first year.
