Rise of the five-year-old coder: the new national curriculum
Yesterday saw the release of the new national curriculum for England, which has a new and welcome focus on computing. And it's not just programming, but also the skills that a good programmer needs. Schools will teach the fundamentals of computer science - like abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation - and computational problem analysis.
Equipping children with a solid grasp of computing and software is a first and fundamental step in preparing a workforce for the digital world, as stated in the new curriculum:
"A high-quality computing education equips pupils to understand and change the world
through logical thinking and creativity"
If you would like to know more about the new curriculum, it can be downloaded from the UK Government's website.
