Smart Data Research UK Survey

Smart Data Research UK (SDR UK) is a new and innovative UKRI digital research infrastructure investment. SDR UK will provide safe and secure access to smart data, safeguard public trust, and build capability for cutting-edge research and innovation.

Smart data refers to data generated through everyday interactions with digital devices, sensors, and services, such as app and web data, retail and business data, financial, transport and infrastructure data, and data from remote imaging devices and wearables.

As part of its evidence gathering activities, SDR UK’s Strategic Advice Team (SAT) is currently surveying researchers who work in, or who have an interest in, the area of smart data research. Researchers do not need expertise in working with smart data to respond to this survey; the SAT are interested in your views and experiences regardless of your level of expertise.

The survey is designed by researchers at the University of Liverpool and the University of Newcastle and aims to gain insights into researchers’ experiences in smart data for social science research. The survey will help the SAT map the needs, challenges, enablers and best practice currently experienced by those working with smart data (and/or those who would like to in future), both in the UK and in collaboration with international partners. The survey should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete.
