Ben Thomas

Ben Thomas is an early career qualitative researcher and a sociologist of work. His PhD explored inequalities in digital and creative work over the life course, revealing what it takes to sustain careers in film and TV, video games and websites. This work sparked Ben’s interest in supporting equality, diversity and inclusion through providing evidence for policy and practice. Since completing his PhD he has worked for the University of York-based Screen Industries Growth Network where he researched the impact of diversity schemes on career trajectories. This revealed the challenges faced in making meaningful change to organisational cultures so that they support diverse talent. Ben will continue to explore EDI challenges in and alongside his work with SSI, as well as conducting qualitative research that will support research software engineering careers.
