We are pleased to announce the Inclusivity and Accessibility in Recruitment guide, which offers practical advice for people recruiting technical teams and looking to make their recruitment processes more inclusive, accessible and equitable.
Technical teams, whether in research or elsewhere, can miss out on talent, creativity and perspective when recruitment processes are not designed with diversity and inclusion in mind. While EDIA checklists can help organisations take initial steps, building diverse and inclusive teams requires sustained attention, reflection and commitment.
The guide is aimed at people recruiting for technical teams, particularly those hiring Research Technical Professionals such as Research Software Engineers, Research Platform Engineers, Data Managers, Digital Lab Technicians and related roles.
It encourages recruiters and team leaders to develop an “EDIA mindset”: being curious about how recruitment processes, team culture and leadership practices can be improved, and being willing to identify and address bias, inaccessibility and barriers to inclusion. It also introduces user stories and personas to help recruiters think through how different applicants might experience the recruitment process. By centering marginalised and intersectional perspectives, teams can identify changes that make recruitment more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
