The SSI is delivering a course on “Software practices for open and reproducible research” from 1-4 April 2025. This workshop is funded by the UKRN and participants from the members of the network are eligible to apply for a place - please get in touch with Steve Bohenam (UKRN Local Network Lead, Newcastle) for more details.
The course covers challenges faced by researchers and RSEs developing software and managing data for modern computational research, including requirements commensurate with the FAIR research software principles, automation of research, and enabling replication of research results by writing software to implement the research methodology.
The course teaches good practices and tools to aid the development of quality research software and is designed for junior RSEs, post-graduate students or early career researchers who are starting their research projects and want to develop software to support their research using established practices. Before joining this training, participants should have a foundational knowledge of Python, version control system Git and should be comfortable using command line.
